She nodded a little and laughed. “Yeah, that’s true. It’s still kind of the heat of the day,” she agreed, and then glanced his way. “I wouldn’t be able to sleep either.”
“Well, I guess it’s a good thing that’s a long way off for both of us,” he joked, nudging her knee lightly with his own. It was remarkable how his mood had shifted so significantly so quickly; Ryan was used to getting stuck in a bad one, so it was nice to talk to someone and not feel so… weary.
