She laughed and nodded. “Yeah, so much. Then they just come across as ridiculously nosy and usually I just want them to go off and just leave me alone,” she said, shaking her head a little. She definitely could relate to everything he was saying.

She made a bit of a face and sighed, shrugging and looking out in front of her again. “Yeah, well … he doesn’t have any right to. He’s the one that broke up with me and he made it clear that he didn’t want me anymore. He has a new girlfriend anyway so…”

He nodded in return. “Yeah, exactly,” he agreed, sighing just a little bit. “Too many people are like that,” he added, shaking his head. It really was a regrettable thing about people these days. At least, about a lot of the people he knew.

He paused when she looked away, realizing that he’d been right. He wished he hadn’t been, given what she’d said about her ex the last time they hung out. And then, suddenly, what she was saying sounded really familiar. “If he has a new girlfriend,” he started quietly, “he doesn’t get to say anything about your life. Forfeited the right. Even as a friend.”
