She grinned. “Depends on if you were a pain in their butts or not,” she teased, her tone light and easy. He didn’t really seem like the sort of guy that would be that much of a pain with his instructors, but she didn’t know enough about him to really gauge either way.
She sighed quietly and smiled reassuringly, shaking her head. “No, definitely not. If I wanted you to leave me alone, I would tell you … I mean, obviously I’d tell you in a really nice, polite way, but I’d be honest with you. I’m pretty good at saying what I mean and not skirting around stuff.”
“Nah,” he shook his head, grinning to himself. “I didn’t like making trouble. At least, not in school,” he added. He’d always thought it was a surefire way to make sure you wouldn’t succeed, so there was no reason to do it on purpose. Sure, things happened sometimes, but if he could avoid it? Of course he would.
“I… Well, that’s actually good to know,” he nodded, clasping his hands together as he leaned forward to rest his arms on his legs again. “Too many people don’t… I mean, I never know who really means what anymore,” he sighed. “And then I always try and say what I mean and people think I mean something else, and it’s just…” he laughed again. “Nice to know someone else says what they’re actually saying.”
