The Space in Between || Ryan & Alain

“No, go ahead,” she said with a laugh, shaking her head and smiling at young man approaching. “I don’t really mind either way. I’m doing homework, but it’s not going to bother me. If it was something that would have bothered me, I wouldn’t have came here in the first place,” she added, leaning with her arms on her book and her fingers hooked on the top of the book.

She was actually glad to see him, and glad for the break, even if it turned out to be a short one. It was nice to have breaks now and again, at least for her. She had a hard time keeping all of the information in her head if she just tried to cram.

“That makes sense,” he agreed thoughtfully, glancing over at one of the hoops and then out at the water before looking back at the young woman on the bleachers. “How much homework could you have?” he asked after a moment, coming to a stop near the edge of the court, but not moving to start using it yet. “Isn’t school over?”

His whole concept of when the high school finished was gone, something truly remarkable given that he’d done five years at the place. Although, he supposed, what with two years of finishing early, and now this year finishing really early, it probably made sense that his idea of the last day of class was a bit wishy-washy.
